Instructions for participants

Race Safety

Each Participant is responsible for their own safety and that of fellow participants. These “common sense” guidelines should be followed:

Before race day …

Check that your bike is roadworthy

Make a checklist of things that you will need on race day (example below)

Familiarise yourself with the race routes: www.crickladetri.net/maps.htm

Check your provisional start time: Race details

On the morning of the race …

Assess your health. Withdraw if you are injured or feel unwell!

Eat and drink adequately. Plan your nutrition

Check the weather forecast

Check that you have everything you need for the race

You will need …

Drinks

Sun protection

Any medication (inhalers etc.)

Swimming kit

Cycling / Running shoes

Cycle helmet

Your bike

Change of clothes

Before the race …

Register between the appropriate times and at least 45 mins. before your provisional start time (see race rules)

Give us any medical information so that this can be passed onto our first-aiders.

Rack your bicycle in the allotted space

Attend your allotted safety briefing 11:30 Olympic, 13:00 Sprint.

Check that you understand the instructions, routes and rules

Attach your race numbers (to the BACK of your shirt if you are not using a tri belt - pins will be provided)

Familiarise yourself with the layout of the transition area

Place your drinks, helmet and shoes in the designated space in transition

Warm-up adequately … you will be allowed at least 2 lengths warm-up in the pool

During the race …

Follow the instructions of the life-guards and race marshals

Wear a cycle helmet

Ensure that your race numbers are visible

Observe the no cycling rule in the transition area

Observe the Highway code at all times

Stop at the mandatory “stop points”

Maintain a safe distance from other participants (drafting is not allowed)

Leave drinks, helmets and shoes in the designated space in transition

Take frequent drinks and make use of the drinks stations

Carry any medications with you (inhalers etc)

Stop immediately and ask for assistance if you sustain an injury or feel unwell

Stop and help if asked to provide assistance by another participant

After the race …

Warm-down and stretch adequately

Have a suitable change of clothes ready

Eat and drink adequately

Collect your kit (use your pre race checklist - you will need your race number to collect your bike)

Report any safety incidents or suggestions for improvement on the forms provided at registration

Race Rules

Participants must observe the following rules:

Olympic participants must register between 09:00 and 11:15, sprint participants must register between 10.00 and 12.30 Both olympic and sprint must register at least 45 mins. before their allotted provisional start time shown at Race details .

Olympic participants must attend the Safety Briefing at 11:30.  

Sprint participants must attend the Safety Briefing at 13:00.

Participants must follow the “pool rules” and any instructions given by the pool lifeguards. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

 Diving into the pool is prohibited.

 Only the next two swimming heat's competitors are allowed to wait in the area between the changing rooms in the pool hall.

Always keep the pool exit area clear.

The competitors will exit from the deep end of the pool and WALK to the exit area.  

Participants must place helmets, drinks and shoes etc. in the designated space in transition (otherwise they will be removed)

Participants must wear their race numbers during the cycle/run stages. Numbers are to be shown on the back when cycling and front when running. If not using a number belt the number should be worn on the back.

Participants must be wearing (secured) cycle helmets before they remove their bikes from the transition racking. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

Participants must wear a cycle helmet throughout the cycle stage and helmets must not be removed until bikes are replaced on their racks in transition. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

Participants must not wear any iPod or other type of MPR3 or music player as this will interfere with their ability to hear traffic and instructions issued by marshals. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.

Bikes must not be ridden in the Leisure Centre grounds. Participants may mount /dismounted their bikes outside the gate leading onto Stones Lane. Riding inside the prohibited area will result in a 10 min time penalty.

Bikes are only permitted in the the designated bike park area and only competitors collecting or returning their bikes are allowed in this area.

Participants must follow the designated routes for the cycle and run stages. Failure to do so will result in punitive time penalties.

The Highway code must be observed at all times during the cycle/run stages.

Participants in the Sprint event must STOP at the T junction of Fridays Ham Lane and the Spine Road. Failure to do so will result in disqualification. This point is signed in advance and marshalled.

Additional Rules for Relay teams

Each relay team member must follow the rules applicable to individual entrants for their discipline but the following additional rules are also applicable:

Each team member shall be allocated the same race number.

Shirt numbers must be transferred from team member to team member at the end of each discipline and must be securely re-pinned or attached to a triathlon number belt.

The team swimmer will place their team number with his or her lane counter. The number should already be pinned to a shirt or attached to a number belt. At the end of the swim the swimmer will collect the team number and will walk to the exit of the pool. Once out of the pool hall, the team swimmer will walk / run to the transition area where he or she will hand over the shirt or number belt to the waiting team cyclist.

The team cyclist will wait in the transition area next to their racked cycle, keeping both the exit of the pool and entrance to the transition area clear for other competitors. The team cyclist will then secure the team number before collecting their cycle from the transition area.

After completing the cycle stage the team cyclist will dismount on Stones lane at the entrance to the leisure centre and will walk / run to the transition area where he or she will rack the cycle before handing over the shirt or number belt to the waiting team runner.

The team runner will wait in the transition area next to the teams allotted cycle racking station, keeping both the exit from Stones Lane and entrance to the transition area clear for other competitors. He or she will then secure the team number before exiting the transition area.

All team members will receive a medal once the runner completes the event.

Members participating as part of a team will not be eligible to hold any event records for a single discipline, however any team member that breaks the event record for a their discipline will be credited with the "all comers" record for their discipline.

Teams will not be eligible to hold the overall event record; however any team that breaks the overall event record will be credited with the "all comers" record for the event.
